Fuel cells for data centers

Advantages

Emergency power supply is an increasing challenge, especially in urban areas, due to increasingly stringent regulations regarding gaseous, particle and noise emissions. Here, fuel cell systems can offer a low-maintenance, cost-efficient and long-lasting alternative. In particular, the long-term usability of the stored hydrogen and the fast reaction time achievable in combination with batteries are convincing arguments. Our fuel cell energy systems supply emergency power up to the megawatt range.

Data center backup power is a growing challenge due to stricter regulations. Fuel cell systems offer a low-maintenance, cost-efficient and durable solution here.

We have developed a 1 MW power generator that is precisely tailored to these requirements by storing hydrogen on site for long term and with minimal maintenance efforts. In the event of a power outage, this hydrogen is used to generate electric energy. The hybridization of the generator, through the sensible integration of appropriate battery capacities, ensures an extremely fast start in an emergency. The generator delivers emergency power in the megawatt range in grid-compatible quality (50 Hz and 400 V) and achieves system efficiencies of over 50%.

The solution can be integrated as a building solution or used as a stand-alone container solution.
