City buses, but also intercity buses, can be supplied with electricity by fuel cell system. Fuel cell buses offer a sensible extension for zero-emission mobility, especially on difficult terrain, long distances and when power grids are already heavily utilized.
For VINUITY, fuel cell buses are no longer a vision, but have already been equipped with hundreds of VISTAH fuel cell systems and are in daily use. The VISTAH 60, 80 and 110 systems are mainly used. Some buses have already been in use since 2019 and can look back on more than 300,000 km of mileage.
The fuel cell buses are analyzed with regard to their specific requirements such as power, route and terrain. Together with the customer, a hybrid powertrain is designed from which the required fuel cell power is derived. This performance varies depending on the bus segment (8.5 m to 12 m) and possibly also within it depending on the requirements in terms of range and, above all, topography. Finally, the VISTAH systems are selected and integrated according to the performance requirements, with the VISTAH 60 and VISTAH 80 models in particular being used.
